At only 21, Canadian artist GIA is a triple-threat whose come-up should be closely watched in 2019. Originally from Scarborough, Ontario, the multi-faceted singer, producer, and songwriter debuts her first single “Belladonna” with accompanying visuals – simultaneously introducing her captivating melodies and magnetic persona ahead of her upcoming self-titled EP.
Inspired by late-night driving and alternative R&B, the “Belladonna” music video creates a mesmerizing and emotional aura set against vivid colours and animated backdrops. GIA seamlessly explores R&B textures while defining a lane (visually and sonically) uniquely of her own. She effortlessly balances both self-reflections and bravado between her woven lyrics as she sings, “I turn my $2 bill to a dream in the hills,” and banters ad-libs like, “Got my baby in the tropic.”
Toronto-based producers Ahkilo and Txpflr deliver the nostalgic, up-tempo production on the lead single. With GIA’s EP scheduled to be released this coming summer 2019, “Belladonna” leaves us eagerly waiting and watching for her next move.
