It’s a pleasure and rarity to find music that champions authenticity in 2019, but Toronto Songstress LU KALA gets it right. The vocalist recently debuted the music video for her first single “DCMO (Don’t Count Me Out)” and we can’t say enough good things about this artist. Aside from a voice and talent unmatched, we’re sure that she will soon be leading Canadian R&B in 2020. The song is a powerful anthem, inspired by an ex-lover, and peers who may have underestimated her potential (and are likely regretting it now).
The visuals tell a contradicting story to the lyrics. LU’s onscreen love interest challenges her understanding of love and self-worth. The result is an empowered tribute, inspiring us to all champion ourselves a little more. The music video is directed by angelicamilash (Ricky Romero, Myles Castello & Just John) and shot by Ali Khurshid (The Weeknd, NAV, & PartyNextDoor).
Lu explains, “I felt like people always looked past me and under-minded my potential often questioning how I looked and whether I was marketable. DCMO (Don’t Count Me Out) is my way of reclaiming my power and showing the world that yes, I do belong.”
